Hope87
HOPE'87 is an Austrian initiative cooperating closely with the Austrian Federal Chancellery and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs regarding the support of youth employment projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America as well as in Central- and Eastern Europe. This international initiative is based on the UN resolution 40/16 "Opportunities for Youth" adopted by the General Assembly on the occasion of the International Youth Year of the UN (1985). Young people are encouraged to show self-initiative and to realize their own ideas of small and medium scale, locally-developed projects creating training and employment for themselves and other young people.
SPO Pakistan
In 1987, collaboration between the Government of Pakistan (GOP) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) resulted in the formation of a Pak-Canada Small Projects Office (SPO). However, it was soon realized that the projects would serve little purpose due to lack of skills and capacity in the communities bringing the shift in focus from project support to capacity building. Three Pakistanis who had deep insight into development and political processes of the country led the process of transformation of Small Projects Office into a wholly indigenous and completely Pakistani organization called Strengthening Participatory Organization in 1994.
Doaba Foundation
Doaba is the result of the efforts of riverine communities when they were united to minimize their vulnerabilities during flood disaster in 1987. It made its first move on self help basis as community based organization from a village “Shah Din” near Rang Pur-Muzaffargarh. After 13 years of successful self-help initiatives on Disaster Risk Reduction in riverine areas of Muzaffargarh, Doaba felt the need of sharing its experiences with other organizations and to expand its practical knowledge in disaster prone villages of other districts. Doaba got registered in 2000 as public welfare trust and is now working with disaster prone communities of 06 Districts Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah and Jhang South Punjab.
